A Fully Automated Vacuum Pressure Impregnation (VPI) Plant is designed to seal porous materials like coils or stators with varnish, resin, or other insulating materials. This process enhances the functionality and lifespan of electromechanical equipment such as HT/LT motors, HV motors, traction motors, and generator coils by filling voids in materials, thus providing a void-free insulation. The impregnation process increases durability and prevents degradation caused by environmental factors like temperature and humidity.

Work Process Flowchart of Fully Automated Vacuum Pressure Impregnation Plant

Storage Tank

  • Diameter: 2000 mm
  • Height: 2000 mm
  • Function: This tank is used to store the resin/varnish that will be used in the impregnation process. The resin is pre-heated to the desired temperature before being introduced into the impregnation chamber.

Vacuum and Pressure Stages in the Impregnation Chamber

  • Diameter: 2000 mm
  • Height: 3000 mm
  • Door: Hydraulic clamping system for easy loading/unloading of coils or stators into the chamber.
  • Process :
    • Vacuum Application: The stator is placed inside the impregnation chamber, and the chamber is evacuated to create a near-perfect vacuum. This step ensures that air pockets and moisture are removed from the porous material.
    • Resin/Varniish Filling: After achieving the vacuum, the resin or varnish is introduced into the impregnation chamber. This is done under a controlled environment to ensure uniform distribution of the material.
    • Pressure Application: Pressure is applied to force the resin/varnish deep into the porous areas of the stator. The pressure and time are controlled to ensure proper impregnation.
    • Soaking: The stator is allowed to soak under pressure for a designated period to ensure complete impregnation.
    • Drain and Blowing: After the soaking period, the excess resin is drained, and pressure is released. The stator is then removed from the chamber.
    • Baking: The stator undergoes a baking process in an oven to cure the resin/varnish, solidifying the insulation and ensuring long-term durability.

Key Features of the Fully Automated VPI Plant

  • High-Performance Components: The plant uses advanced high-performance vacuum pumps, sensors, traps, and controllers to ensure a reliable and homogeneous impregnation process.
  • Complete Automation: The plant is controlled by a PLC (Programmable Logic Controller), ensuring all processes (vacuum, pressure, resin application, etc.) are performed automatically, minimizing human intervention and maximizing consistency.
  • Hydraulic Lid Clamping: The impregnation chamber features a hydraulic lid clamping system, providing secure closure during the impregnation process, which enhances safety and efficiency.
  • Pneumatic Valves and Solenoid Control: Pneumatically operated valves (solenoid valves) are used for automatic control of the resin flow, pressure application, and vacuum management.
  • Time-Optimized Process Flow: The cycle time for vacuum, resin filling, pressure soaking, and curing is optimized based on long-term experience and industry standards.
